WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) – Over a hundred people gathered in Warwick Saturday to raise awareness for children diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

The event, was hosted by a group called Rock Type 1, was a chance for kids of all ages to try their hand at indoor rock climbing.

The group’s co-founder, Brown Medicine Doctor Stephen Scott, said when his son was diagnosed with diabetes, they didn’t let it keep their family from the outdoor activities they loved.

“Getting everyone out to be active and basically interact with other families makes a huge difference,” said Scott. “You feel like you’re not alone.”

Doctor Scott hopes the event inspires other families in similar situations to continue living healthy lives through exercise.
