Lt. Governor Sabina Matos celebrates 100th day in office

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Rhode Island Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos is celebrating her 100th day in office Thursday.

ABC6 spoke exclusively with Lt. Governor Matos about her tenure so far.

Matos is the 70th Lieutenant Governor of the state, and was sworn in on April 14. Her public inauguration was held about a month later.

Matos made history as the first Afro-Latina woman to be sworn into the position.

Prior to becoming Lieutenant Governor, Matos served on the Providence City Council. She was first elected to the City Council as a Councilwoman for Ward 15, covering Olneyville and parts of the Silver Lake and Valley neighborhoods. She became City Council President in 2019, the first Latina woman to hold the position in Providence’s history.
