Major proposed development in Johnston confirmed to be Amazon distribution center

JOHNSTON, R.I. (WLNE)- The major proposed development in Johnston has been confirmed to be an Amazon distribution center, according to next week’s Town Council meeting agenda.

For months there had been speculation around the state that the project was going to be an Amazon building, those rumors being confirmed Monday.

The Town Council’s meeting is set for September 15 at 7 p.m.

Amazon would pay $5.7 million in property taxes in January of 2024, according to the agenda. The tax would rise to $9.1 million over the next 20 years.

The town will collect $60,000 a year on the proposed facility.
