Fire Department board to decide whether to accept union concessions

Mark Curtis
There are major developments tonight that could determine the fate of the Central Coventry Fire Department.
The Department Board of Directors meets at 7 p.m. and must vote on whether or not to accept concessions from the firefighters union.
The union has agreed to eliminate five firefighter positions give up pay raises and accept a higher–cost medical plan.
All told the firefighters have agreed to $1.1 million dollars in cuts.
If the fire board rejects the concessions it is under court order to vote tonight, on whether the fire department should be closed down.
