Majority Leader Michael McCaffrey will not seek re-election to Rhode Island Senate

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island Senate Majority Leader Michael McCaffrey announced Monday that he will not be running for re-election this fall.

McCaffrey has been a Senator out of Warwick for the last 28 years. He was first elected in 1994.

“It is with a heavy heart that after nearly three decades in the State Senate I am deciding not to seek re-election to an institution that I deeply admire and respect,” said McCaffrey.

McCaffrey has been serving as the Senate majority leader for the last five years.

“Serving as senate majority leader has been the most rewarding experience of my career in public service,” he continued in a statement.
