Man, 24, fatally shot while in car near Providence gas station identified
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence police said Monday that a man was fatally shot over the weekend while he was in a car near a gas station.
The shooting happened at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday on Charles Street by the Sunoco gas station.
During a press conference Monday, Maj. David Lapatin said a car approached another and and multiple shots were fired.
“It looks like a handgun — possibly a 9-millimeter,” said Lapatin about the weapon used in the shooting.
Police identified the victim as 24-year-old Delvy Dominguez.
Dominguez, who’s from Providence, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he died.
Lapatin said that while the motive isn’t known, the shooting is believed to be targeted. No arrests have been made yet.
This shooting marks the capital city’s third homicide of the year.
