36-year-old man shot and killed in car, marks New Bedford’s 3rd homicide of year
The victim has been identified as 36-year-old Luis Miranda.
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said a New Bedford man was found shot and killed in a car Friday morning, marking the city’s third homicide of the year.
The shooting happened just after 1 a.m. on Weld Street. When officers arrived, District Attorney Thomas Quinn said 36-year-old Luis Miranda was found dead with gunshot wounds inside a Chrysler Sebring. He was the only one in the car.
The district attorney’s office said ShotSpotter — a gunshot detection system — alerted New Bedford police to shots being fired in that area.
Neighbors reportedly heard gunfire followed by the sound of tires screeching as an unknown vehicle fled the scene. “It was pretty scary,” said Miranda Amaral, a local neighbor. “Very nerve-wracking.”
This comes weeks after a road-rage fueled stabbing just streets away left one man severely injured and rattled residents.
No arrests have been made yet.
