Man accused of breaking into multiple buildings, vehicles in Newport

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Newport Police Department said a man accused of breaking into and stealing from multiple buildings and vehicles was arrested on Nov. 30.

60-year-old Steven Kuntz was charged one count of with breaking and entering into a residence, one count of breaking and entering into a business, one count of attempted breaking and entering to another residence, four counts of trespassing, six counts of larceny from a motor vehicle, and one count of possession of cocaine.

According to a police, a business owner told officers that two items valued at over $1,600 were stolen in front of their business.

After searching the area, police allegedly found Kuntz with the stolen items, as well as addition items believed to have been stolen.

Kuntz was taken into custody and brought to the police station, where police allegedly found him in possession of cocaine.

During the investigation, police determined the suspect allegedly broke into two homes and several vehicles, as well as attempted to break into a third home.

Police alleged officers recovered over 60 stolen items connected to the break-ins.

Kuntz was arraigned in court on Dec. 1 and held without bail.
