Man accused of injuring 13-year-old during shootout in Woonsocket due in court
WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — A Woonsocket man accused of injuring a 13-year-old boy in a passing car during a shootout over the weekend is scheduled to appear in court.
The incident happened at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday on Cumberland Street near St. Anne’s Church.
Chief Thomas Oates said a father was driving by with his two children, when the 13-year-old was hit in the arm. He was either struck by the stray bullet or shattering glass. A 14-year-old was in the back seat.
Police said about 20 rounds were fired between 49-year-old Gerald Ware and another person.
Oates said Ware was treated after he was shot in the leg. He was then arrested and charged with felony assault and discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence.
Police said they’re still searching for a second person involved in the shootout.
