Man arrested after crashing into Taunton playground

TAUNTON, Mass. (WLNE) — Taunton police have arrested a 24-year-old man after the suspect drove his car into a playground and then left the scene.

Officials say Keith Carvalho of Taunton, smashed his Mercedes sedan into the Hopewell Park Playground on Friday evening and then tried to walk away from the scene.

When police arrived to the scene, witnesses identified Carvalho as the driver.

Carvalho told police that he was “drunk” and needed “to go away.” He began flailing his arms, crying, and screaming.

He was brought into an ambulance for evaluation, but allegedly began screaming and damaging equipment inside.

Carvalho was placed under arrest and brought to the Taunton Police station. While being booked, Carvalho assaulted several police officers.

Carvalho is being charged with the following:

  • OUI Liquor
  • Leave the Scene Property Damage
  • Negligent Operation of Motor Vehicle
  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Disturbing the Peace
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Assault and Battery on Police Officer (3 Counts)
