A Portsmouth man is being charged by police in that town and Newport after his ex-girlfriend claims he kidnapped her and assaulted her.

The victim was at Rhode Island Hospital when she met with detectives, claiming that on July 2 she was walking on Memorial Boulevard in Newport and realized she was being followed by her ex-boyfriend, 57-year-old Timothy Logan Haslam.

She says she and Haslam dated for 5 years but broke up within the last year.

The victim then alleges that in the parking lot of Easton’s Beach Haslam threw her into his vehicle and took off, physically assaulting her and causing her a broken arm.

She says he then sexually assaulted her and kept her hostage, taking her to a Seekonk hotel for several days and assaulting her again.

She escaped on July 8.

A no contact order was in effect at the time.

Haslam was arrested by Portsmouth Police and arraigned Tuesday on numerous charges from the Newport and Portsmouth Police including domestic kidnapping, assault, sexual assault and violation of a no contact order. He was held without bail.
