Man arrested for aggravated assault after using hammer and glass vase

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) – A man was arrested for an aggravated domestic felony assault, that resulted in one man and two women injured.

On Tuesday, June 19, at approximately 9 p.m., police responded to an alleged stabbing at 85 Burbank Street.

A verbal argument had escalated into a fight, that involved a hammer and a glass vase.

44-year-old Raymond M. Basker allegedly assaulted a male victim by smashing a glass vase over his head, repeatedly hitting him with a hammer, and biting him on the shoulder.

The victim was transported the Rhode Island Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Two female victims who attempted to break up the fight were also injured and were transported to Rhode Island Hospital as well, but with non-life-threatening injuries.

Basker was transported the Kent County Hospital, and later released.

He was later arrested and charged with Domestic Felony Assault and Domestic Disorderly Conduct, as the victim was related by marriage.

He was arraigned this morning at Third District Court and was released on $20,000.

Basker has been ordered to have no contact with all three victims.

His next court date is scheduled for September 19, 2018 in Superior Court.
