Man arrested for DUI after driving 111 mph on 95N, 4 others arrested

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Five people were arrested early Friday evening for driving under the influence, including a man from Connecticut who drove on 95 North going over 100 mph, Rhode Island State Police announced Friday afternoon.

Troopers initially spotted Sterley Delmas, 25, of Norwich, CT, around 2:40 a.m., the car Delmas was operating was travelling on Interstate 95 North at a clocked speed of 111 miles an hour.

Once Delmas exited the highway on Route 3 in Coventry, he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of liquor or drugs; refusal to submit to a chemical test; and reckless driving to elude or flee from a police officer, and several other motor vehicle violations.

David Thy, 34, of Attleboro, MA, was arrested around 2:05 a.m. At the time of his arrest, Thy had a blood-alcohol content greater than .15 percent.

A park ranger had initially reported a disabled motor vehicle at the entrance to Lincoln Woods State Park, and when troopers arrived on scene, they arrested Thy.

The 34-year-old was charged for driving under the influence of liquor or drugs , and was cited for several motor vehicle violations.

A Cumberland man, identified as Matthew Bellows, age 28, was arrested around 1:05 a.m., on Interstate 295, near Exit 7 in Smithfield.

A call came in for a motorist operating erratically in the northbound lanes.

Bellows was charged with driving under the influence of liquor or drugs with a blood-alcohol content of .10 to .15 percent.

Amber Farrell, age 23, of Warwick, was arrested around 1:50 a.m., when troopers stopped her for a motor vehicle violation on East Avenue in Warwick.

She was charged with driving under the influence of liquor or drugs, and refusal to submit to a chemical test, and she was also issued several other motor vehicle violations.

Lastly, troopers arrested 24-year-old Dylan J. Cahill, age 24, of Cumberland.

Cahill was arrested around 11:05 p.m. Thursday night when police responded to a report of a one-car accident on Route 146 north, near Admiral Street, in Providence.

The 24-year-old was charged with driving under the influence of liquor or drugs and refusal to submit to a chemical test. In addition, Cahill was issued several other motor vehicle violations.

No further information is available at this time.
