Man arrested in connection to deadly hit-and-run crash in West Bridgewater

WEST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (WLNE) — Massachusetts State Police said Thursday they arrested a Brockton man in connection to a deadly hit-and-run crash in West Bridgewater.

The crash happened at about 10:30 p.m. Monday on Route 24 north.

Police said Juan Leonardo Parra Altamirano, of Brockton, surrendered Thursday morning.

He was charged with leaving the scene of a crash that caused personal injury resulting in death, leaving the scene of a crash that caused personal injury, and, and leaving the scene of a crash that caused property damage.

Police said 46-year-old Erpharo Gilbert, of Raynham, was hit by Parra Altamirano. Her car then crashed into a concrete barrier.

Parra Altamirano fled the scene, added police.

Police said while Gilbert was stopped in the left travel lane, a 2022 Ford Maverick pickup truck hit the back of the car, causing it to catch on fire.

She died at the scene. The other driver, a 23-year-old Brockton man, was not injured.
