Man arrested in connection to May 14 murder in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE)- A 20-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday in connection to the May 14 murder in New Bedford.

Malique Smith was arrested in Fall River by Massachusetts State Police on Tuesday morning.

Smith is being charged with the following:

  • Murder
  • Carrying an illegal firearm
  • Carrying a loaded illegal firearm

Smith has been ordered to be held without bail after being arraigned on Wednesday morning.

Police responded to Richdale Food Market after reports of shots fired.

They found 32-year-old Joseph Pauline in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital where he later died.
