A man believed to be responsible for at least two home break-ins in East Greenwich has been arrested.

22-year-old Nicholas Hanlon was arrested Wednesday afternoon after police responded to an attempted breaking and entering on Phillips Road. A resident said a man had entered her home through a garage window and took off when he discovered she was home.

East Greenwich Police reached out to the North Kingstown Police and the State Police. A short time later a North Kingstown Police officer found Hanlon, who matched the suspect's description on Bayberry Lane. Hanlon was found in possession of a portable lockbox. Later a separate resident on Phillips Road in East Greenwich notified police that his home had been broken into and a lockbox had been taken.

Hanlon also had several pieces of jewelry reported stolen from a home on Lafayette Drive last week in his possession as well as a small amount of cocaine. Other items were also found in Hanlon's possession and police believe they may have come from separate crimes but it is unclear. Anyone with any information is asked to call East Greenwich police detectives at 401.886.8685.
