Less than 24-hours after police arrested a man for assaulting a woman in a wheelchair, he’s been arrested again. This time he was nabbed for harassing her.

Fifty-five-year-old Emile Perrault appeared frustrated in Kent County Court Thursday as he was arraigned for the second time in less than 48 hours.

Both of his cases involved the same 48-year-old woman in a wheelchair.

Police say on Tuesday, Perrault approached the woman at this bus stop on Cranston Street just outside of Devan Manor. He allegedly started swearing, calling her a ‘dumb cripple.’ Then, he hit her.

Perrault was arrested on multiple charges including felony assault and was released on $10,000 personal recognizance.

But just hours later, he was arrested again. This time he was nabbed for harassing that same woman.

Police say she called 9-1-1 fearful that he was going to hurt her again.

He was arrested without incident and on Thursday, Justice Mary McCaffrey held him without bail.

Cranston Police will be asking for a mental health assessment for Perrault.

He’s expected in court again next month.
