Man attempts to break into firehouse, police say

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Providence police arrived on scene after being notified that a man was attempting to break into a firehouse and personal vehicles of firefighters at Engine 15 on Mt. Pleasant Avenue this morning.

Firefighters said they witnessed the suspect wiggling door handles, while trying to get into the firehouse and personal vehicles in the station parking lot.  He was unsuccessful, and fled on foot after being confronted by firefighters.

“I feel like at that point it’s probably just small petty theft, because what would you steal from a firehouse?” neighbor Kevin Tiu said. “Pretty sure nobody can break into this place, so I wouldn’t worry too much.”

Police were able to locate the suspect and take him into custody.
