Man barricades himself in Fairhaven home

Police responded to the apartment of 40-year-old Richard Ribeiro at around 8:30 p.m. after reports from neighbors say it sounded like he was smashing up his apartment.
When officers arrived on scene, they could see Ribeiro through window and he began throwing things and started yelling that he “would not be taken alive.”
After about three and a half hours, Ribeiro reportedly tried to escape out a window and was tased by officers who then took him into custody.
Ribeiro was taken to Saint Luke’s Hospital for observation.
He faces numerous charges including vandalism, disorderly, disturbing the peace and attempted arson. There were no weapons inside the apartment.
Ribeiro has not yet been arraigned.
