Man Carjacks DCYF Director, Leads Police on Wild Chase
A Central Falls man led Pawtucket Police on a wild chase this morning after he carjacked the Director of Rhode Island's DCYF at knife point.
Police say 21 year-old Louis Teixeira carjacked Patricia Martinez at about 8am at St. Joseph's Church on Walcott Street while she was getting out of her car. He tossed her aside, got into the car and took off. A short time later, Teixeira was spotted at a Sovereign Bank in East Providence, where he rammed several cars including an East Providence police cruiser, and fled.
He drove back into Pawtucket, jumping curbs and driving on sidewalks along Prospect Street before finally being stopped on George Street – but he bailed out of the car and tried to cross I-95 on foot. He was finally arrested on the highway at about 845am.
Somehow, in all of this, there were no injuries.
Teixeira is charged with first degree robbery, reckless driving, hit and run, eluding police and resisting arrest. He's due in court this afternoon.
