Man Charged After Woonsocket Stabbing

A Woonsocket woman is recovering from stab wounds Wednesday, and one suspect has been arrested and charged with the crime.

Twenty-three year old Louis Callei was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, and possession of controlled substances – prescription drugs. Police say he attacked the victim in her Social Street apartment building Tuesday evening, around 6:30pm.

Police caught up with Callei after he fled the scene, and he was arrested after jumping into the Peters River. Callei and the officers who caught him were all treated for exposure.

Callei was ordered held without bail on Wednesday in District Court, and will be back before  a judge on February 9th. The victim of the stabbing, who police have not yet named, is in fair condition at Rhode Island Hospital.
