Man charged as accessory in New Bedford homicide to be arraigned

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — A 24-year-old New Bedford man accused of having a part in a fatal shooting is set to face a judge.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said Sterling Robinson will be arraigned Wednesday in New Bedford District Court.

He is facing an accessory to murder after the fact charge in connection to the shooting death of 20-year-old Lorenzo Gomes.

New Bedford police were called for a report of gunfire shortly after midnight Monday.

Officers searched the area of Tallman and North Front streets and found Gomes in his vehicle on Belleville Avenue.

Investigators believe Gomes had tried to drive himself to a hospital and lost consciousness.

Gomes later died at St. Luke’s Hospital.

District Attorney Thomas Quinn sought an arrest warrant for Robinson, who was taken into custody in Fall River. He was held over the Independence Day holiday.

The homicide investigation remains active.
