Man charged in connection to overdose death of teenager appears in court

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence man facing charges in connection to the overdose death of a 15-year-old girl appeared in court on Monday.

Juan Pizarro, 34, was arraigned last month on the charge of engaging in a controlled substance transaction resulting in the death of a minor.

He also faces two felony drug counts in connection to alleged offenses that took place on April 3.

Pizarro is accused of selling drugs to a teenager at the Motel 6 in Warwick. The girl later died after Pizarro dropped her off in Providence.

The girl was under the care of the Department of Children, Youth, and Families at the time.

The organization told ABC 6 News it is actively investigating the incident with Providence and Warwick police.

Pizarro has a bail hearing set for May 16, according to online court records.
