PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence man died early on Monday morning after trying to break into an Elmwood home.

Police said that the man tried to smash through the Sumter Street home’s door at around 1:45 a.m. and badly cut his forearm.

Investigators on the scene found him on the ground and bleeding. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where he later died.

The man was involved in a domestic disturbance at the same home earlier in the weekend, police said. He was wanted on a warrant that accused him of committing a “domestic crime” on Saturday.

During Monday’s early morning incident he was yelling obscenities at the woman.

Investigators aren’t sure if the injuries the man sustained during the break-in were the cause of death.
