Man dies following Thursday night shooting in Providence

PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE) – Providence Police are investigating a shooting on Tobey Street that killed a 29-year-old man.

Providence Police received the call around 7:35 p.m. of a report of two shots fired, according to Captain Roger Aspinall.

Officials say the 29-year-old male victim was shot in the parking lot of 25 Tobey Street, which is a public housing complex, but Aspinall said the victim is not a resident at the complex. Officials are not yet able to release what the victim was doing there at the time of the shooting.

The victim was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital for emergency surgery, where Major Lapatin said he did not survive on Friday morning.

Police interviewed two witnesses and are working on creating a description of the suspect or suspects.

There have been five homicides in Providence in the last 11 days.

There have been a total of ten so far in 2020.
