Man fleeing in stolen car arrested by New Bedford police

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE)- The New Bedford police have arrested a repeat offender on multiple charges Tuesday morning.

Officers were called to the area of Penniman Street and Summer Street early in the morning for a man attempting to break into vehicles.

Dennis Rose, 36, was arrested after found by officers in a vehicle that was both stolen and the subject of a police lookout for excessive speed on December 25.

When officers first approached Rose, he fled the scene almost striking an officer before crashing into another vehicle. A brief foot chase ended on Clark Street resulting in Rose’s arrest.

Rose was charged with a suspended license, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, assault with a dangerous weapon, larceny of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, trespassing, leaving the scene of property damage, a warrant arrest, and carrying of certain weapons or instruments on a person.

Rose was known to the police having charges for armed robbery, firearm possession, and narcotics distribution, last convicted in November 2019 for breaking into a motor vehicle.
