Man found guilty in Miya Brophy-Baermann murder case

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence man was found guilty Thursday for the murder of a 24-year-old woman in Providence.

Isaiah Pinkerton, 26, was found guilty in Providence Superior Court on multiple charges including murder in the shooting death of Miya Brophy-Bearmann after a jury trial spanning over a week.

Her family rejoiced in getting justice for Brophy-Baermann after nearly two years.

Providence police said Brophy-Baermann was with a friend on Olney Street in the early hours of Aug. 1, 2021 when she was shot and killed.

Police said it was a drive-by shooting, and she was not the intended target.

Pinkerton and Shawn Mann were arrested last summer in connection to the killing of Brophy-Baermann, roughly a year later.

Brophy-Bearmann was from Warwick and had just earned her master’s degree from Northeastern University.

She started her first job in North Providence just weeks before she was killed.

Pinkerton will be sentenced at a later date.

A trial for Mann is slated to start later this summer.
