Providence man shot dead while driving

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Police are investigating after a shooting that left a man dead this afternoon.

The man has been identified as 23-year-old Jason Gonzalez on Providence.

Neighbors say the victim was a nice kid and are shocked something like this happened so close to home.

The shooting happened just after 2 p.m. on Donelson Street, just off of Admiral street.

Police say a Gonzalez was shot and killed while inside his silver Toyota. That car has since been towed away.

One woman said she knows the victim and that he’s friends with her son.

She told ABC6 Gonzalez went by the nickname “heavy”, adding that he regularly hangs out on this street with friends and she was shocked to hear that something like this happened in her neighborhood to such a quiet and polite kid.

Police continue to investigate. They say no arrest have yet been made.
