A freak accident has taken the life of a 53-year-old man.

Dozens of Providence Police and firefighters rushed to Broadway around 11:00  Tuesday morning.

A blue tarp was being held up behind a grey SUV after discovering 53-year-old Richard Ferrara had died after becoming trapped underneath his SUV.

His body was first discovered by a young man walking by, who then told a nearby construction worker, who then called 9-1-1.

When police first arrived Ferrara’s upper body was pinned under the rear axle of the car, and his left leg was pinned behind the back left wheel.

The parking lot attendant told police Ferrara parked his car in the lot every morning.

He apparently thought the car was in park, but it was actually in neutral.

When he walked behind it, the SUV rolled, trapping him underneath, and killing him.

Police say the  area where the car was parked does have a slight decline, which is how they believe the car rolled back on top of him.
