Man killed in accident on 295 in Cumberland

One person is dead following an accident on Route 295 South Friday afternoon in Cumberland.

Around 1:45 p.m., police say a commercial tow truck was traveling southbound in the far right lane when its operator tried to overtake a dump truck and lost control, rolling over onto its roof.

The tow truck’s operator, identified as 56-year-old Michael F. Morin Jr., of Woonsocket, was pronounced dead at the scene. Morin was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The operator of the dump truck was also wearing a seat belt and was uninjured.

State Police and the Cumberland Fire Department were forced to close 295 South for three hours due to fuel leakage from the accident and widespread debris.

Accident reconstruction teams and the criminal identification unit are still investigating. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact State Police at (401) 444-1000.
