JAMESTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management said a man was rescued after falling into the water at Beavertail State Park.

The DEM said in a statement to ABC6 News that rescue swimmers, the Jamestown Fire Department and police were all responding Thursday night.

Officials said the rescue swimmers located the man and pulled him from the water.

He was airlifted to Rhode Island Hospital around 8 p.m. for serious injuries that responders said are consistent with falling on rocks and possibly hypothermia.

The man’s identity was not immediately available.

This is a developing story and will be updated as new information is released.
