Man sentenced to 12-years in 12-year-old’s death

A man involved in the murder of a 12-year-old girl has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Angel Valerio, admitted to his role in the shooting death of 12-year-old Aynis Vargas, in June of 2013. Valerio was among five gang members who were accused of opening fire into a crowd at a graduation party. Injuring three women and fatally wounding Vargas.

Valerio made a deal with prosecutors agreeing to plead guilty to three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of conspiracy in exchange the murder charge was dropped.

Three other men, Brandon Castro. Ricardo Vasquez, and Luis Gonzalez all pleaded guilty to charges in connection to the girl’s death.

The fifth suspect, Luis “Fat Boy” Gonzalez was acquitted on the murder charges. He was convicted on several lesser charges. He is the younger brother of the other convicted suspect, Luis Gonzalez.
