Man, 28, shot and killed in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence police said a man was shot and killed Monday night.

The shooting happened just before 8 p.m. on Waverly Street.

Maj. David Lapatin said the shooting took place inside a shop and the man, only identified as 28 years old, was pronounced dead on scene.

The major said several shots were fired and no arrests have been made at this time.

“It’s just senseless stuff, we just got too many guns out there,” said Mayor Jorge Elorza, who was on scene of the shooting.

The shooting is the city’s ninth homicide of the year.

Lapatin said investigators will be on scene into the early morning hours Tuesday.
