Man, 26, shot outside of Providence restaurant

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Providence police say a man was shot Thursday night while standing outside of a restaurant at the corner of Smith Street and Chalkstone Avenue.

Major David Lapatin said the shooting happened just after 7 p.m.

Lapatin told ABC6 the 26-year-old victim was approached by two subjects as he walked out of the Mandarin Garden restaurant. After a brief conversation, the subjects opened fire, shooting the man several times.

“Several shots. Two or three,” Lapatin told media on scene.

Police say two men were seen running from the scene.

Lapatin said several shots were fired and the shooting seems to be targeted.

The victim was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital where police say he is in critical condition.
