Man Sought for Robberies of Several Elderly People Arrested

A man wanted for several robberies in Narragansett, North Kingstown and East Greenwich this past Sunday has been arrested.

Police say 48 year-old Michael Brooks is being held at the East Greenwich Police Department and questioned by officers from several police departments.  He was arrested this morning at the Cumberland Farms store on Route 2 around 930 after an officer on patrol spotted his car in the parking lot.

The East Greenwich police had sent his picture to the media yesterday and said they'd “saturated the area” after a car breakin in North Kingstown, where witnesses had provided a description matching Brooks.

On Sunday, Brooks allegedly robbed an elderly woman at screwdriver-point in the parking lot of Dave's Marketplace on Division Street.  He's also thought to be responsible for a robbery at a Stop & Shop on Frenchtown Road in East Greenwich and one in the Salt Pond shopping plaza in Narragansett where the victim was an 88 year-old woman.

Brooks is a New York native with an extensive criminal record there.
