New Bedford Police are investigating an early morning stabbing in their city.

Police say two men forced their way into an Ashley St. apartment around 6 a.m. Thursday and confronted a resident in his bedroom.

The two suspects demanded money, and the 28-year-old resident led them to his bureau drawer. Then, a fight broke out and the resident was stabbed in his right chest with a knife.

Both suspects fled the scene on foot with an unknown amount of cash. The victim followed them outside where they were last seen running east down David St.

The victim was treated for non life-threatening injuries at Rhode Island Hospital.

The victim’s 57-year-old mother, who was in the apartment at the time, was unharmed. She believes her son may know who the assailants are. They are described as light-skinned males around 5’8” – 5’9” tall. Both were wearing shorts, one with a white t-shirt and one with a yellow t-shirt.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Tyrone Jones at 508-991-6300 ext. 134.
