PD: Man arrested for DUI after striking 35 vehicles in Providence

Providence, R.I. (WLNE) — A man is facing a number of charges including one count of DUI and reckless driving after he struck 35 vehicles throughout the south side of Providence around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Christopher R. Paolissi, 44, of Foster, was suspected by police to be under the influence and was charged with DUI.

He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he submitted to a blood test. The results are still pending, according to police.

A total of 35 vehicles were struck, but only one was occupied. There were no injuries reported.

Police said numerous patrol units were dispatched to the south side for a report of a vehicle that had struck several vehicles and failed to stop.

A witness called police stating he was following the vehicle responsible.

Officers said Paolissi continued through several streets in the area of Elmwood Avenue at a speed of 15 mph, hitting numerous vehicles before he was finally stopped.

Paolissi is charged with a DUI, reckless driving and neglecting to stop his vehicle following a collision. He also faces charges for 34 counts of duty to report an accident.

He is currently under prisoner watch and being treated for minor injuries.
