PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) – The Pawtucket Fire Department confirmed a mobile home in Maple Meadows burned to the ground Wednesday evening.

Battalion Chief William Conroy confirmed a call came in around 6:30 p.m. Upon arrival, one mobile home was completely engulfed and the flames were spreading to five surrounding homes.

Chief Conroy confirmed one man in his 60’s lived in the home. He was taken to the hospital and is believed to have sustained minor injuries.

A firefighter was also taken to the hospital with minor burns.

“These trailers are put together to be inexpensive and go up quick, so they burn quick,” Chief Conroy said at the scene. “It was a very hard fire and it burned very quickly, and had the potential to catch all of these trailers. So they averted disaster.”

The man’s home is a total loss. The other five homes reportedly sustained minor damage to the outside, but the damage is still being assessed.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
