Man target of drug investigation causes deadly crash in Taunton, state police say

TAUNTON, Mass. (WLNE) — A man that was a subject into a Massachusetts State Police drugs investigation has been arrested after a deadly crash in Taunton Monday.

Hector Bannister-Sanchez, 34, of Medford, has been charged with manslaughter, reckless motor vehicle homicide and negligent motor vehicle homicide.

State police said members of a narcotics task force tried to pull over Bannister-Sanchez in Middleborough at about 2 p.m. as he was a “target of an ongoing investigation.”

Police said he fled from investigators, heading to Taunton in a 2017 Toyota Highland at a high rate of speed. Troopers did not pursue the man.

Shortly after, police said they were notified of a crash on Kingman Road in Taunton and determined one of the two cars involved was the Toyota Highlander.

Police said the woman who was driving the other car died from her injuries sustained in the crash.

The Bristol County District’s Attorney Office identified her as 54-year-old Lori Ann Medeiros of Middleboro.

According to police, Bannister-Sanchez took off from the crash on foot, but was taken into custody with the help of bystanders and a state trooper.

Bannister-Sanchez was taken to Morton Hospital to be evaluated.

He is expected to be arraigned in Taunton District Court Tuesday.

The investigation is still ongoing.
