Man threatens Boston news station, says he has ‘guns’ and wants to ‘kill people’
NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — North Kingstown police said Tuesday the received a call from the ABC affiliate station in Boston about a man making threats.
Capt. John Urban said the call came in just after 2 p.m. from a Lenox Court resident who told WCVB-TV he had a story for them involving him having “guns” and wanting to “kill people.”
Urban said they called the man who told them he was alone with a gun and wanted to “kill people.”
“A perimeter was established while the fire department staged nearby,” said the captain.
Police said residents in nearby apartments were evacuated while police talked with the man.
Urban said that after a mental health clinician arrived at the scene, police were able to talk the man down.
“He would soon cooperate with our efforts to end this peacefully and came out unarmed,” he said.
The man, whose name wasn’t immediately released, was required to go to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.
Police said they searched his apartment and found no weapons.
