Man transported to hospital after New Bedford fire

NEW BEDFORD, M.A. (WLNE) — One man was rushed to the hospital after a fire broke out in a home in New Bedford.

Firefighters were called to the home on Myrtle Street shortly after 5pm Saturday, to battle heavy smoke and flames.

Fire chief Paul Coderre Jr. said the man was trapped on the second floor.

“They had heavy fire blowing out the south side of the building on the second floor, and a report of someone in the building,” the chief explained.

The condition of that man remains unknown at this time.

Neighbor Holly Thomas said, “the house was completely covered in black smoke, I don’t think he made it. I’m praying he does for the family.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
