Mansfield police arrest 2, including 14-year-old, after multi-town car chase
MANSFIELD, Mass. (WLNE) — The Mansfield Police Department said they arrested two people, including a 14-year-old, after a car chase through several towns.
Police said it happened just after 12 a.m. Wednesday when they responded to a call for a stolen car.
During the pursuit, that went through Mansfield, Easton and Norton.
Police said the driver allegedly rammed a police cruiser and then continued at speeds of over 100pmh.
The officer did not sustain injuries, officials stated.
A “stop stick” was deployed to puncture the stolen car’s tires, greatly reducing its ability to travel at high speeds.
The car continued until officers were able to locate it in the yard of a Franklin Street home.
Police arrested the driver, 19-year-old Duron Colton, of New Bedford, on the scene. They said at the time of his arrest, Colton was armed with a knife which he eventually released.
Officials said Colton faces the following charges:
- Receiving a stolen motor vehicle
- Malicious destruction of property over $1,200
- Reckless endangerment of a child
- Assault and battery on a police officer
- Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon
- Assault with a dangerous weapon
- Resisting arrest
- Disorderly conduct
- Driving with a suspended license
- Negligent operation of a motor vehicle
- Failure to stop for police (three counts)
- Leaving the scene of a property damage accident
- Leaving the scene of a personal injury accident
- Speeding
- Marked lanes violation
The unidentified 14-year-old from Brockton is facing charges, including receiving a stolen motor vehicle, conspiracy to receive a stolen motor vehicle and disorderly conduct.
They will be arraigned in Taunton Juvenile Court.
