MANSFIELD, Mass. (WLNE) — A man was killed in a crash involving a drivers-ed car in front of Mansfield High School on Saturday, Mansfield police said.

Authorities said at approximately 8:30 a.m., they received a call for a car crash. When officers arrived they said they found a silver Toyota Corolla and a white Ford Explorer involved.

Officers assessing the crash said an elderly man seat belted into the rear passenger seat of the Explorer appeared to be in distress.

He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead an hour later.

All other occupants in both vehicles reported minor injuries.

Due to the unknown circumstances of the elderly man’s condition, the scene was secured and accident reconstruction was done by Massachusetts State Police.

According to authorities, the juvenile operating a Teachers Driving Academy car was cited for causing the crash when failing to yield to oncoming traffic.

The identity of the deceased was not immediately released.

Police said the area of East Street and the high school were closed for investigation following the crash.

No further information was immediately released.
