Many RI Motor Vehicle Services Suspended Monday
CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) – Many Rhode Island motor vehicle services will be suspended Monday while a federal computer database is upgraded.
Department of Motor Vehicles Administrator Sally Strachan said the nationwide computer system allows the state to process drivers licenses and IDs. She said the computer upgrade will affect state motor vehicle agencies nationwide.
On Monday, Rhode Island will not be able to process drivers licenses, permits, and renewals, state-issued IDs, reinstatement of suspended licenses, or other transactions.
The upgrade will not affect scheduled road tests at the DMV's Melrose Street office in Providence. Services resume Tuesday.
