Marine Sergeant from Lawrence killed in Kabul honored with vigil

LAWRENCE, Mass. (WLNE) – Hundreds of attendees packed Veterans Memorial Stadium Tuesday night to honor the life of Marine Sergeant Johanny Rosario.

Rosario, a 25-year-old graduate of Lawrence High School, made the ultimate sacrifice protecting Afghan citizens, allies and other service members when ISIS-K militants attacked outside Kabul Airport.

“She helped over 30 thousand people reach safety before she was killed by a suicide bomber,” Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker said at the vigil.

After several hours and multiple speakers, attendees left wearing black ribbons in Sgt. Rosario’s honor.

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden on Sunday met privately with the families of the 13 service members killed in Kabul.
