Masks required for indoor high school fall 2021 sports season in Massachusetts

Parents Confused Over Spectator Guidelines For School Sports

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) has issued a mask mandate for indoor fall sports for the 2021 season.

The MIAA says this action is accordance with the recent indoor mask mandate state education commissioner Jeffrey Riley implemented yesterday.

The mandate says:

  • Masks shall be required for any activity for student-athletes and coaches who are indoors
  • Masks are not required and will remain optional for any activity for student-athletes and coaches outdoors

This mandate is consistent with the practice of indoor and outdoor recess and indoor and outdoor physical education classes during the school day, the MIAA said.

The standards will be reviewed prior to Oct. 1 which is when the Riley’s mandate will expire.
