Mass. Irish Undocumented Immigrants Warned of Scam
BOSTON (AP) – Immigration attorneys say a scam that promises green cards and work permits is targeting undocumented Irish immigrants living in Massachusetts.
Pro bono immigration attorney Christopher Lavery said Wednesday a number of Irish immigrants recently have reported being approached by attorneys who promise a green card within six months for a fee of around $15,000.
But Lavery and the Irish Pastoral Center in Massachusetts said the promise is false. They are telling immigrants to report such claims to authorities.
Eva Millona, executive director of the Massachusetts Immigrants & Refugee Advocacy Coalition, said similar scams have targeted area Latinos and Brazilian immigrants.
Lavery estimates that around 1,200 undocumented Irish immigrant live around Boston.
