Mass. Registry holds license plate lottery
BOSTON (AP) – The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles is
holding its annual low-number license plate lottery.
The agency is putting 179 of the coveted plates up for grabs
this year, including R12, F17 and 55A.
Registrar Rachel Kaprelian says applications
are available in all Registry branches or online at
www.mass.gov/rmv.
More than 6,000 people applied last year, and more are expected
to participate in this year's lottery.
The application deadline is Aug. 9. The drawing is scheduled for
Aug. 28 at the Larz Anderson Automobile Museum in Brookline.
The low-number plates used to be handed out by politicians as
favors for the well-connected, but the Registry started the lottery
system to make their distribution more fair.
