LOWELL, Mass. (WLNE) – The Massachusetts State Police announced Thursday they captured a man wanted for multiple crimes.

Jared Silva, 26, was wanted on warrants for distribution of a Class A narcotic, domestic assault and battery and motor vehicle violations.

The State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section worked with Chelmsford and Lowell police to find Silva. Thursday morning, officers observed a man matching Silva’s description get into a car at the residence of interest and drive away.

Troopers followed the vehicle to a fenced-in parking lot of a business in Chelmsford, where he backed into a parking space. When the officers’ unmarked vehicles entered the parking lot, Silva accelerated out of the space and sped around, looking for an exit.

Officers said their cars blocked the one exit of the parking lot. Silva tried to crash through the perimeter fence, which was topped with barbed wire, which caused the vehicle to become disabled.

Silva exited the vehicle and surrendered to police.

Authorities searched the car and seized a Springfield Armory .40 caliber pistol with 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition in the magazine, a large bag of suspected fentanyl weighing about 30 grams, and a large bag of suspected crack cocaine weighing about 15 grams.

Multiple additional charges against Silva are pending.
