Mass. State Police unveil brand new app

By Alana Cerrone

Massachusetts State Police made a big announcement this weekend…the release of their brand new app.

The smartphone application has several features, including push notifications with geo-fencing, a function that no other law enforcement agency is using.

This feature allows Mass. State Police to immediately notify users with geographically-configured real-time alerts. This will help immensely with public communication during major events including this year's Boston Marathon.

The app's alert function pushes a notification to the top of the user's phone for advisories like traffic situations, missing persons or wanted suspects.

A formal rollout will take place later in the week where officials will highlight the app's features.
